The time has come, my fellow spooky souls. Our day in the sun - or lack thereof - is nigh. 🙃
It’s the exquisite time of year when the dark gray clouds descend like a cozy blanket and the air takes on that crisp earthy scent of changing leaves, decaying wood, petrichor and spice. And we start craving warm special drinks, thick scarves, dark stories, and nostalgic haunted things because somehow it feels like the veil between worlds is at its thinnest now.
Simply put, it's spooky season. Finally!
And this is when I am my best self. This is where I belong. If I could live in a perpetual state of autumn, I would. And it’s the time for moody decor, witchy vibes, and cozy pastimes to snuggle up to on a rainy fall day.
So let’s dive into the witchy fall decor ideas and visual inspiration that I’ve gathered to get you all set for the spooky season ahead!
Witchy Decor Inspiration
First, to convey this dark witchy style that I have in my head, I wanted to show you some really exquisite visual inspiration from some Instagram accounts who are doing it impeccably!
witch_haas
Witch Haas has a very dark academia look to her space that really transports you to a different time. Lots of old books and collected antiques, which is perfect because an antique store really is your best bet when shopping for this look. Ideally you want to get your hands on unique, timeless pieces to add a ton of character to a room.
And I really love this little gallery wall she did with the black candlesticks and vintage touches, as well as the way she decorated for Halloween last year with her beautiful mini bar styling.
You could totally do your own version of something like this by getting a bar cart, a few vintage decanters and candlestick holders, and some floating candles that magical, whimsical touch!
I also love that she said she was inspired by Allison's house from Hocus Pocus. Who wasn't inspired by that absolute dream of a Halloween house? So, definitely check out Witch Haas and give her a follow if you want to keep up with what she's doing for the season!
crescentandcraft
Then we have Crescent and Craft, who not only has inspiring styling shots, but they all revolve around her handmade candles, which are so gorgeous and so unique. Her Persephone’s Descent and Fall Equinox lines are obviously perfect for the season and would look so pretty on vintage candle holders.
I also love these black pomegranate candles, which she describes as “dipped in the River Styx”. Love that. So pretty yet so sinister - combination I am a huge fan of. And then she has these cute little wreaths that would be so gorgeous for this kind of witchy fall decor look I'm talking about.
Mrs. McKenna Berry has a very warm, cozy fall presence on Instagram, mixed with some dark witchy elements like her tablescape styling. This is such a perfect example of decorating for Halloween in a stylish way that doesn't come across as cheesy or cartoony, yet it still leans into the theme and doesn't take itself too seriously.
Just get a few bottles, some black candlesticks, some bare branches, a netted or black lacy table runner, and a cute little crow friend, and that's all there is to it! It ends up making such a cool, spooky, yet stylish impact on a dining area.
She also has this hutch that's styled beautifully for fall. This is just divine. It has just the right amount of bog witch and a dash of the macabre. It's the perfect little apothecary cabinet.
And even though this isn't strictly fall decor, I simply must point out her little fridge magnet gallery wall. How cute is this? Admittedly, I’m a hater of fridge magnets myself, but I must say… when they're done like this, I can get behind them! Enthusiastically.
So those were just a few inspiration accounts that convey this witchy, moody style I'm talking about. Definitely check them out if you want some truly delicious inspiration for this look!
Witchy Decor Ideas for Fall
Now let's get into the specific decor pieces I found to get you started on this witchy fall look!
Witchy Candles by Phantom Row
Of course, pretty candles and pretty candle holders are the key to moody ambiance. And I particularly recommend these ones from an Etsy shop called Phantom Row. Oh man, these are perfect for fall!
And you might recognize their Enchanted Forest candle from my goblincore video that I did recently. One of the lovely owners of Phantom Row saw that video and reached out to me with the sweetest email and graciously offered to send me a little box of treasures from their shop! So, shout out to Raquel and Erica, the sister duo behind Phantom Row. You can tell they put so much love and artistry into their candles, and the scents are divine.
Enchanted Forest is woodsy and earthy. Edinburgh Library is musky and smoky, like an old library with a fireplace. It basically smells like dark academia. And then Witching Hour is warm and spicy… with perhaps an undertone of spiked apple cider and feminine rebellion. These are just my kinds of scents!
So, I highly recommend you check out Phantom Row on Etsy. They're definitely kindred spooky girl spirits, and I'm very grateful for the gift they sent me. Their candles really are the kinds that transport you to a dark, romantic, magical place, and I'm so excited to spend my fall there.
Candle Holders
Moving along, let's get into a couple candle holder situations that really tap into this witchy fall spirit. Something like this wood piece would be perfect on a coffee table or kitchen countertop. I love the little crescent moons filled with crystals and that the full moon in the center holds the candle. It's just very cozy and festive.
And then these hand blown glass pumpkin tealight holders would add such a nice pop of warm amber to a room. And you can fill them with fairy lights instead of candles if you want - which frankly, who wouldn't?
Autumnal Dried Floral Arrangements
Once you've established the vibe through candles and candle holders, another type of decor to look out for in this style would be dried flower wreaths and bundles, or a cloche with a little autumnal scene inside.
I think it would be so pretty to really go all out and deck your apartment out in stuff like this. You know, really go for that kitchen witch's cottage look and surround yourself with a true bounty of hanging herbs and potion ingredients to get you through these dark times we're doing our best to live through.
And there's just something so cozy and festive and quintessentially fall about being surrounded by these autumnal arrangements. It'll make you feel like you've had a bountiful harvest in your apartment. And that's really what we're aiming for, right? To make our apartments look like they've reaped a prosperous harvest? 🙃 These will accomplish that goal.
Raven Pillow
And then I also love this raven pillow. One of the best things about a new season is it gives us decor addicts a totally valid excuse to switch out our throw pillows. Incorporating ravens is a cool way to bring in some gothy Edgar Allan Poe energy in a room, but also it could work all year round too if you're like me and you're a full time dark and moody kind of girl.
Fire Quartz Skull
Even something like this hand carved fire quartz skull would also be beautiful to have out all year round, yet also screams spooky season. I kind of want to put this on my Death Note manga displayed on my coffee table. Sure, it would be a lot of skull imagery, but can a girl have too many skulls in her space? I don't understand the question, and I won’t respond to it. 🙃
Then there’s this coffee mug. I love a good cheeky coffee mug moment.
And I'm a firm believer that coffee mugs are decor! They sit next to you for hours out and visible on your desk or accent table or wherever. So, you bet your ass they contribute to the aesthetic of your space.
And I just love the energy this mug is giving. Right, God forbid women have their hobbies. Whether it's knitting or baking… or concocting energy elixirs to stay awake… or frolicking in the forest at night with her besties and placing curses on the patriarchy… A girl has to have her hobbies.
And then obviously this mug is just aesthetically perfect for fall. I mean, look at it. Perfect for sipping while cuddled up on the couch on a gloomy day.
Witch Aesthetic Wall Art
Finally, for spooky season wall art, you simply can’t go wrong with witches, Tarot, black cats, and stardust. 🥰
So those were the moody, witchy fall decor pieces I found!
If you want some more fall decor ideas like these, I recommend you watch this video I made last year next. Some of the decor in it won't be available because it's a year later, but I did check some of the links and some of them are still up. So it might be worth going through it!
